So this competition, which should be fun, is stressing me out.
Why? Because it's got two components that I suck at: 1. A time limit, and 2. other people.
I think this will be more fun once I'm THERE and actually playing with fabric, as opposed to doing research and documentation for something that isn't for me (and is therefore less fun because I keep second-guessing whether or not so-and-so is going to approve of what I'm doing). I don't enjoy "timed" research projects - they frustrate the crap out of me. I generally meander through my research letting ideas put themselves together, after long periods of subconscious percolation. (This is also a less-than-useful process when it comes to trying to work with a team.) While the Griffin's Needle competition is a fantastic idea in theory, I'm finding that it really goes against the way my creative process works. *sigh*
On that gloomy note, I spent a good part of last night working on an "accessory" for Masha's outfit. A festive wool belt to go on over her overshirt.

It is actually flourescent pink, purple, and dirty orange, but as usual the colors look odd under the light in my kitchen.
Working on this project is interrupting my work on a pair of stockings for Miss Masha's brother - I'm most of the way through the cuff of the first stocking, using G's pattern:
That's about 11.5 stitches/inch using lace weight wool.
And finally, I give you my most recent flowers from
sirzig. They're a very pretty maroon color. I have no idea what they're called, but they please me greatly!

Plus since we have to make group decisions citing reasoning for things that other people reasoned is a challenge. I generally don't have issues explaining my thoughts but I'm still a new sewer so for me to try to explain why we have chosen a construction style.. I'm not there yet.
Sorry I wasn't more helpful, if we ever do this again I'd certainly go with something we had more experience doing HOWEVER I still think the event will be fun.

What do you think of the belt? Passable?

Please don't worry at all about my opinion, you don't need my approval for anything. I'm grateful I was chosen as your team's dress-up doll, I'm not going to complain about what you make(you know, so long as you don't expect something unreasonable from me, like wearing something that reveals vast amounts of skin and such). And all of it is vastly better than anything I could ever manage! I'm sorry! :(
Please don't stress. :(
And the belt is wonderful, I think. Thank you.

It's certainly not your fault that I'm stressing, and it's not entirely your opinion that I'm worried about. It's the fact that this is a competition which will be JUDGED. Not just by the person wearing the garment, but by a panel of my over-achieving peers! Plus I have team-mates and I don't want them to think my ideas are dumb...
See? This is why I try to avoid interacting with too many people at once... It's overload.
Usually when I make clothes, I'm only trying to please one person - the one who will be WEARING the clothes.
Really, as long as you like the clothes, I don't really care how we do in the competition. On the other hand, I don't want my teammates to be disappointed that we did poorly.
*facepalm*
It will be fine.

If it helps any though, I honestly don't think the team will be dismayed by any of your work.

Since it is a team piece, if you haven't all agreed on everything beforehand, you could bring extra in case they choose not to go with some of the initial ideas you had.
Of course, I could be completely off. Since I am doing Day of Fencing, I haven't looked that closely at the rules.
OOC, what level will your team be competing at?

In about a month, my group is doing silk banner making. :-)
If it makes you feel any better, I've only ever entered one A&S competition (the theme was sheep), and I don't much care for a "competition" either. I'm also not much of one to sit still long enough for displays (although they are pretty to look at). But I love sitting people down and teaching them to make pretty scrolls.
