The one thing that has continued to astonish me about the people out here in Wisconsin, is how ACTIVE they are. ALL THE TIME. I'm only beginning to participate in some of the activities that the people out here perform on a weekly basis and my head is whirling.

I'm half way done with the sleeve on Zig's sweater, but it looks like it'll take me another couple weeks yet to finish. This is frustrating because I know that if I step away from the project it'll never get done... So I just need to keep plugging away at it.

I'm sloooowly becoming aclimated to some of the duties and functions of being deputy webmistress to the Northshield Kingdom Website. I still don't feel like I'm being NEARLY helpful enough, but those people who are helping me learn the job are being most encouraging. I just wonder how they manage to make the TIME.

I've started going to fighter practice for the FIGHTING recently, so now I have a long list of other projects that need to be started, like making my own swords and armor. Roisin has been very kind and very patient in getting me started on this path, but as usual the going is slower than I like. I think I'll be more satisfied with progress once I have my own kit and can practice whenever I please. I need to do more drills, but feel bad borrowing other people's equipment, because I'm not sure how much of my sweat they want on their toys... PLUS see my above frustration with wanting to finish that darn sweater before I start anything new.

AND Zig needs new fighter pants. AND I have linen to make myself a new dress. AND the new tabard I made for Zig didn't survive the washer/dryer gauntlet like I'd hoped. AND I have ideas for weaving/spinning/dying projects that I'd like to perpetrate for an A&S competition as Eithni's new apprentice... AND I'm paying $15/month for a WoW membership... I love that game, but I have a feeling that the membership is mostly going to waste. What was I thinking upgrading my account?

There are so many Peers and well accomplished people out here... WHEN DO THEY SLEEP?! Last night we had Zig's mom over for dinner and the Packer game, so I didn't accomplish anything last night except for the successful feeding of my family and the thorough dirtying of my kitchen. I was so exhausted by the end of it all that I didn't even have the energy to sign onto WoW or write the draft of the missive that we needed to get finished for the Northwatch.

Clearly I need to sleep less and do more... I just wish my body were in agreement with me, but I continue to feel like I need a nap more than I need a new dress.

So... In summary, I am quite pleased with Wisconsin. I am doubly pleased with all my new friends. Now I have to figure out a way of being more pleased with myself!

Since buying that inkle loom at Pennsic, I'm discovering that I like weaving too. But I HATE warping. Hate, hate, hate.

It's even worse after I spent HOURS warping a new project, only to discover that my project was too powerful for the loom and it yanked all the pegs out.

So now Gunther is building me a new Gunther-approved loom, which will probably be strong enough for anything my little mind can dream up, but probably not "portable" as you and I use the term.

We don't actually sleep, we are zombies. ::brains::

Knitting a sweater for Zig, hmmm? I think you need to read this book.

Whenever you want a sock knitting lesson, let me know.

Indeed I have flipped through this book at the craft store and concluded the following things:

1. She seems to value the ring a lot more than I do. Any jackass can go out and obtain a trinket and give you a line that he has no intention of following through on. Not every boyfriend trusts you enough to get you a RIFLE as an anniversary present. Zig did, and thus, I am forced to conclude that he intends to be a perfectly well mannered boyfriend to the end of his days... Otherwise he would not have provided me with a correctional device.

2. Her boyfriends were probably not professionally trained as "SCA barbies" by dozens of well meaning laurels who wanted to see the king through his first coronation in something other than a pair of kung-fu pants. Zig is patientest ever with me creeping up behind him with a measuring tape and measuring him while he's playing video games, and making him try on "just a sleeve and nothing else"... This is more an exercise in fitting garb on man-proportions than it is in knitting Zig-specifically a sweater.

3. Maybe someday, I will actually ASK Zig what he wants out of his sweater, rather than just making something and saying "here... this should fit you." THEN it will be a sweater that I will be upset about him not liking...

It seems somewhat less than nice, but I'm working on my own skillset more than I am attempting to make a sweater that Zig will want to wear every day forever...

Oh I hear you and agree bout #1. It is funny book though.

[livejournal.com profile] angry_scotsman gave me a table saw one Christmas. (I still won't knit him a sweater, he'd never wear it, too hot all the time. He did request and wear the balaklava that I knit him for Gulf Wars.)

I LOVE that Zig is a SCA Barbie. Fantastic!

Hahahahahaha!!! yes i would also consider a rifle a more serious committment symbol than a shiny rock =)

Dude! Stop it! You're making me feel guilty over my break time with all that. Are you SURE you aren't pregnant and nesting like mad AHEAD of time?

I often don't sleep, but that is not always voluntary. :P It DOES give me extra project time, though...

Dude, when you figure it out, let me know... *grin* I have a sneaking suspicion it may have something to do with the making of many, many lists.
