So... I have this problem. I don't have as much quality garb as I'd like for the reign. (2 outfits ain't gonna cut it... I managed to wear both of them in one day at Crown, and I've got 2 WARS to attend...)

That being the case, and being as I've had more kind offers to help than I can keep track of, Eithni and I put together some "tunic kits" last night. We cut out all the pieces required to make me a tunic, printed off some assembly instructions, and a card with contact info if there are any questions, jammed it all in a zip-lock baggie, and now anyone who wants to help CAN with very little trouble. All you need are a needle, thread, and nimble fingers or a fancy machine...

I'm hoping that I can put together some similar "kits" for [livejournal.com profile] sirzig next week and get those into circulation quickly as well.

My only complaint? I really, really hate cutting out patterns. It is my LEAST favorite part of sewing. I really love sewing... I want someone to make ME a Pretty Princess Kit so I'll have an excuse to go sit in a corner and play with string.

Ah, well. Hopefully I can get one together for myself in time for the looooong drive out to Silks, Needles, and More! out in Korsvag. That'll be something to look forward to. In the mean time, I'm trying to figure out if I have time to slap together a new apron dress for ARRG! You know... Because I have too much spare time on my hands.

have you invested in a rotary cutter and mat yet? they make cutting out patterns so much easier...that used to be my least favorite part too, until I got my rotary and giant mat =)

From: [identity profile] mightyjesse.livejournal.com

I have a rotary and a mat, but I still hate the cutting part... probably mostly because it involves crawling around on the floor and wrestling with fabric that doesn't want to go... and a dog that wants to come.

:P

I can sew in a comfy chair while watching TV... I don't have to think about too much, and if I make a mistake it can be undone... Not so much with cutting. For someone spacey as I can get, cutting fabric (especially expensive stuff) is just nerve-wracking.

I would be happy to put together a kit...or just to make you a sideless surcoat to go over one of them (I have a great pattern, Bridei borrowed my black surcoat from Chivalry Sports and before she gave it back she traced it for me so I'd have a pattern!)

Are you going for any particular colors besides black/yellow/white?

From: [identity profile] mightyjesse.livejournal.com

For the reign, Zig and I will try to be in Kingdom/Household colors. (Conveniently... they're the same colors.) I have some material that I already bought in nice herb greens and greys, and I'll go ahead and make them into garb as I originally intended, but they'll probably only be worn at the Wars. For court, I have a feeling we'd like to be dressed to match and as "patriotically" as possible.

I have a new gothic fitted gown pattern that I want to make a dress out of, but I have a feeling that I won't have time to look at it until further into the reign... (read: after the wedding!) Until then, I'm going to concentrate on getting some nice Viking stuff for both of us... It's easy, doesn't require much cursing from the nice, helpy people, and the fabric usage/waste is minimal.

Re: I'd be more than happy to sew one

What event will I see you at next? I would love to harness your new addiction to hand sewing! *hugs!*

I will be in Madison the weekend of AARG, but I wasn't going to AARG (visiting my boy) - could we arrange a pickup somehow?

I will be at ARRG for most of the weekend. What events are you attending in the near future? Maybe I can send you a kit via SCA mail...

Re: I'd be more than happy to sew one

There are enough Nordskogen folks going to Arrg that I'm sure SCA mail would work :)

I can help, if machine sewing is okay. For both or either of you.

From: [identity profile] mightyjesse.livejournal.com

Machine sewing is just fine. My OCD is more centered on tidiness than hand sewing. I choose to hand sew because it's hard to use a machine with Maggie in my lap, and it's hard to hear the TV over the whirring.

I'll try to get a "Handsome Heir" kit together for a tunic for [livejournal.com profile] sirzig before I see you on Friday.

In other news... "YAY! I GET TO SEE YOU ON FRIDAY! And I will just be Lizfried in jeans and tennies! YAY!"

Another volunteer volunteering!

Can you send one of your kits out with Baroness Eithne to Quest? I can pick it up there and work on it. If the weather is rainy, may have several people willing to work, you know? And if it's not Kingdom colors, email me the color so I can bring thread.

How are you doing the neckline edge?

I can't volunteer for much until I get through my move and to Lilies, but at that point I'd be glad to do some sewing! I will keep an eye out here and be in touch.

Unless you are *really* desperate, I'm afraid your sewing skills are WAY better than my own. But then I've already begun on other helpful projects that fit with my skill set. ;-)

Would love to help...
I have a counter height 48"x96" cutting table (and no animals) if you ever want to do a cutting session over here.
Get me ideas, fabric and pattern for anything and it will get done. Let me know if you want it done exactly as ordered or if I can use some artistic license.
Will either of you be at Castle Fever/TOC? I can arrange to get things from you then. Trips to Madison are not out of the question, but I would like to keep my expenses at a minimum...gas is getting more expensive again.
Me being unemployed gives you some advantages! I has time!
