So.

I have been asked to be their Highness' "Wardrobe Mistress." I'm not entirely sure what this entails, but I've been given permission to make it up as I go. So at this point, I'm taking it as standing permission to play "Prince and Princess Barbie" with Stephen and Ailleanne. Would anyone like to play too? (HALP!)

I'm not saying that either one of them is poorly dressed or has bad taste... It's just that they probably don't have enough garb to get through the reign - but then, unless you've been royalty before, who does? (I have like... the one good tunic and a bunch of crap that I wear at Pennsic.)

Tonight, I have plans to get their measurements, and next week, I'll go through their exiting garb to 1.) see what they have and then calculate what they will NEED and 2.) steal all their "super comfy garb" and trace it for patterns.

After that it's ON, and I'll be looking for volunteers to help hand-sew, cut, EMBROIDER, make buttons, provide morale support, make coffee and tell me to stop taking myself seriously. And for the love of GOD, someone volunteer to provide fashion advice, because while I can make a tunic, and even fabric, I am NOT the person to ask for fashion advice. I still think a black t-shirt and combat boots are essential to any girl's mundane wardrobe. You do NOT need to know how to do any of the above things in order to help me. I would be DELIGHTED to teach you what you need to know! (OK... everything but the fashion. That's talent, and something I haven't got.) You don't have to be local to play! If you want to make them a nice thing, they'd love 14th cent. English (his period) or 10th century Irish (her period) garb in Kingdom colors. Very shortly I'll be able to mail you paper patterns of their existing garb or their measurements upon request.  So.... Who's in?

I think I can best serve by not volunteering for this one.

I can probably help, but I can't hand sew all of the seams on everything. If machine stitching long seams is okay, with handwork on everything visible, I'd be happy to help. Otherwise, I'll bring coffee.

Oh, I didn't mean that machine stitching was unacceptable... I just don't need help with that. (The MACHINE helps me with that.) If you're making them garb, you put it together however you feel is best. We want everything to be as period as possible, but we're going with the "please use natural, period fibers and make it look right from 10 feet" rule. Being anal retentive beyond that would probably be counter productive, I think. I want people to HELP ME, not HATE ME.

I've never done men's garb, but I can make women's tunic dresses, hand sew, embroider and make buttons.

I may be able to do a dress for her at some point, but I'd prefer to start off with relatively mindless stuff like making buttons or basic embroidery.

That would be FANTASTIC! Can you email me your address at mightyjesse@livejournal.com and I'll send you some fabric to embroider/make buttons with? Each of them will require about 28392359374938 cloth sleeve/front buttons, for the 14th century English stuff and having someone to help produce buttons would make things SO much easier. We don't have any specific outfits planned yet, but as soon as I have the fabric to work with, I'll send you some swatches.

I suck at life:

Evidently they turned off the email forwarding service when they put in the LJ Message system... Can you resend your address to me at epickens at gmail dot com?

No problem. I've been having one of those sorts of weeks, so I completely understand.

I don't have a lot of spare time and I can't sew but if there are small projects that you need help with I would be willing to try.

I'm sure you will find plenty of inspiration (as well as time to do hand sewing) in the classes at Clothiers Seminar. I specifically have a number of classes on the schedule on 14th c. fitted cotes and there are also 15th c. houppelands and fitted hosen. Good times! You should come!

His Highness could be your fitting dummy in Beth's Grand Assiette class. http://www.geocities.com/ursulagoddess/CSNorth_main.html#CSNorth_classlist

That IS indeed the plan... I'm even riding to the event with their Highnesses...

I can be helpy in a variety of ways (fitting, sewing, whatever)...but I'm better at being helpy if you set up sewing dates that I can attend and give a hand at...me being in charge of a particular project right now is probably not the best.

I'm trying to get caught up on LJ...
If you need me for anything, let me know.
