Yesterday was a day of great excitement and EPIC FAIL. Let me tell you why.

EXCITEMENT!
UW Madison has a special library collection (Ruth Ketterer Harris collection) dedicated to textiles! I can see what is in it over the intarwebs!

EPIC FAIL.
It is a non circulating collection.

EXCITEMENT!
The collection is located in the building directly across the street from me!

EPIC FAIL.
The NON CIRCULATING COLLECTION IS CLOSED FOR THE SUMMER.

If you have all your books in a room that they are not allowed to leave, that is inconvenient, but doable and, to a certain extent, understandable. If you have all your books in a LOCKED ROOM that NO ONE IS ALLOWED INTO... That is not a library. That is information hoarding AND openly taunting me. I will hate you for it while I tap my foot and wait for fall... AND [livejournal.com profile] eithni clued me into another issue...

EPIC FAIL.
There is no copy machine in the book area and the librarian can't figure out why people might be upset by this...

I am glad that I own a portable scanner. Guess what I'll be doing on my lunch break all winter???

That is ridiculous. And also pointless unless they *are* doing it just to taunt you. This is probably the result of the librarians getting picked on in highschool. *nods*

Yeay scanner!!!

I've been meaning to get over there for awhile since I found out they have a copy of QEWU, but my schedule doesn't always allow for it. But I didn't know they were closed for the summer, or that you couldn't check out books! Sadness! I may have to come help you this winter...

I have often had exactly these thoughts about this collection.

Wow, followed by frustration and sadness.

Their hours in the winter are weird, so make sure they are actually open before you set yourself up for a scanning session.

Blame budget cuts. I'd happily take a job working their for all summer and beyond, while begging everyone I could for a copier...

This isn't nearly as cool, but might give you something to at least look at:
