So I didn't end up getting the undertunics done to my satisfaction in time for Crown. But Zig and I wore our OMG!YELLOW! tunics and were matching all day anyway.

Zig's New Tunic

My new tunic!

The lighting is a little more gentle in the photo of Zig, but the actual color of the tunics is closer to what you see in the picture of me spinning. Like I said... OMG!YELLOW!

And now for the curious, here is what I spent ALL my allowance on:
Deb's Delicate Deluxe

And here is the batt that I made with it as soon as I got it home:
Carded Wool!

You can just barely see them, but there are noils EVERYWHERE throughout the batt... This resulted in yarn with little bumps and pills throughout... It's not a bad looking finished yarn, but I'm not entirely convinced that it will make good "all purpose string". Thus I'm trying to find ways of either eliminating or avoiding the noils all together. I have a feeling, though, that doing so will cause lots of "wool waste" which the thrifty-fiber-hoarding portion of my soul objects to...

And thus I leave you with a picture that thrills my string-loving-heart to pieces: (My 3 finished skeins.)
3 little Skeins

Tonight I'm going to try to finish another white skein and dye my existing white skein yellow with tumeric. There will, of course, be pictures to follow.

So, because I am not a big enough string geek, what does a drum carder do?

It takes the tangled up, freshly scoured wool and combs it out so that it can be spun with significantly less cursing. It also combs out most of the leaves and twiggy bits that may still be caught in the wool. I'm all for less twigs in my socks...

Spiffy. I shall have to admire this marvel in person sometime to get a better comprehension of how it works (descriptions are good to start with, but once I see it, everything starts connecting in the brain)

She's kinda creepily excited about being in front of a video camera, but this lady's (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=beELIWEaO6g) videos should explain it for you.

The tunics looked great - and not even as OMG! yellow as some people's dresses. And they might have actually made some other people think about matching garb...

Oooh!. Spiffy new toy. You'll need to point at it and wave it about to taunt [livejournal.com profile] brionnfhionn. (And Zig seems to be having sooo much fun in that pic.)
