Well, I started a pair of socks for my Mom at Christmas time, and week before last she called to ask WHERE HER SOCKS WERE??? *blush* The first sock was languishing, forgotten at the bottom of my knitting basket. So, I finished up that first sock, straight away, and started the second sock in my hotel room at Rumble in the Forest/That Moot Thingy... I finished the second sock on Saturday night during a "fiber semi-sleepover" at
eithni's house, and have dutifully posted a package of hand spun wool socks to my Mother - just in time for the summer season.

I'm not sure if any of you knows how awful I am about shipping stuff, but finishing and *posting* this package in a timely manner... once reminded... represents something of an accomplishment for me. (I never seem to be able to make it to the post-office during their hours of operation... However, I have recently discovered usps.com printable postage in conjunction with the convenient letter scale in the office at work. Between the two, I can mail all but the ridiculously sized packages from the comfort of my office.) I hope to continue this trend of responsible behavior as this lovely warm-ish weather continues.
I also got a pair of cute running shoes at Sam's Club on Friday Night... I'm hoping that they will inspire me to GET MORE EXERCISE and lose all the weight that I want to lose before Pennsic. While at Sam's Club, I also stocked up on healthy diet foods, because I'm aware that this weight isn't going to lose itself if I keep eating cookies at the office instead of packing a lunch like a responsible human being. I'm hoping to get into some kind of schedule of walking whether it's on my lunch break at work, or just walking home from the office in the evening. I would love to say that I intended to get up early enough to exercise BEFORE work in the morning, but I am nothing if not a realist... I'm still casting about for exercises that might be considered "fun." I have had NO regular exercise since moving to WI, and it's the only activity that is truly missing from my existence... I think I need to find a responsible work-out partner, perhaps...
Anyway... Back on the topic of fiber related projects, I did another two inches or so of weaving on my tiniest ever tablet weaving project. I'm quite pleased that I have finally managed to figure out what the rhythm of repeats is on the main portion of the design, so it's much easier for me to work quickly without making a mistake. (It's also easier for me to *fix* mistakes because now I am able to *un-weave* without as much guessing.) HP emailed me this morning to let me know that my laptop is FINALLY on it's way home... They've only had it for 5 weeks now... Once my lappy returns, I should be able to design the lettering part of this project and really get cracking... When I'm not busy sewing. That'd be the THIRD fiber-related project that I worked on this weekend.
So I have been tasked with making 4 household fighting tabards for Tristan, Evan, 'Rigo, and Zig (I made one for him earlier, but my first attempt at applique was not-so-sturdy and plagued with amateurish mistakes... That tabard will become his "practice" tabard... Both for him and me. It was my practice at MAKING a tabard which he will wear when he practices fighting.). I ordered 25 yards of 7.5 ounce cotton twill through the lovely Miss
eithni and over the weekend, I prewashed (twice) and steamed 10 yards of the stuff in order to start making the tabards in time for Coronation. (The steaming of 20 yards of fabric took place at
eithni's place during our fiber-semi-sleepover. We vacuumed the carpet then used her fancy steamer right on the floor, after attempts to use an ironing board just left me with tired arms...)
Then on Sunday, the lovely
liz_bet came over to help me wrangle yardage and get all the tabards cut out. Today she'll be coming over again after work to help me cut out all the applique bits for the tabards... (This is a task that I HATE, and thus require some kind of motivational assistance. In turn I will be pleased to send
liz_bet home with some un-dyed linen for her trouble. (She says she can't justify BUYING more fabric for her stash, but I have a feeling that she wouldn't turn down FREE LINEN....)
The neatest part of this project will actually be the side project I have planned for
feeferj's boys... They need clothes to wear to the Renn Faire. So with my black and yellow left-overs, I shall make them tiny little tunics in Haus Kulmbach colors. (They're too young to conscript yet, but it's never too early to start the mental conditioning....) Since Eric is just a baby, I think I'll use some of my super-soft black linen to make his tunic, rather than the heavier duty cotton. HURRAY FOR CUTE BABY GARB!
Erm... I think that's all. I'll post pictures of garb-in-progress later.
