Anyone who sees me on a daily basis knows that at any given time I have one *favorite* pair of jeans that I will attempt to wear pretty much every day. (I wear the second-favorite pair on the weekends when the favorite pair is in the wash. Usually the second-favorite pair used to be a favorite pair that I had to retire from office use due to unacceptible tattiness. AKA - hole in the crotch, butt, or thigh of pant.)
About a week ago, I noticed a frayed spot in my jeans that wasn't there before. It looked as though I'd run up against something sharp and not noticed. I was moderately annoyed because I knew that I was probably going to have to replace Favorite Pant in the next three months when that frayed spot finally gave.
Today I figured out what caused the fray. There is a cart in my office with a sharp corner. I fail to clear the edge of that cart about 3 times a week when I'm in a hurry to get out from behind my desk. (Lunch time is ALWAYS an emergency.) Today I crashed into that cart AGAIN and made a HOLE IN FAVORITE PANTS. It is in roughly the same spot as the frayed spot from earlier. I also made a hole in Favorite Leg which makes me a bit grouchy as well... But not as grouchy as I am about the fact that my pants are currently held together with duct tape, and will need to be replaced TOMORROW instead of three months from now.
Perhaps I will be ingenius and make a nice patch for Favorite Pants, but in the mean time, I will be mentally preparing myself to have to go out and try on more pants in a store in a MALL, WHICH I WILL HATE. I hate shopping. I doubly hate clothes shopping because I have to try stuff on. But this is the price I must pay to find a new Favorite Pant. When I find them, I will by 2 pairs so that I can again go 5 years without having to shop for New Favorite Pant.
