Things that are driving me nuts:

1. Not having a computer that is mine. A computer is a very personal thing (at least to me, being in IT and all...) and I like having a computer that is configured to my purposes... especially for work. Using a borrowed computer makes me really edgy and vaguely uncomfortable, and REALLY inefficient. HP better hurry up and get my work lappy repaired before I go completely ape-shit crazy.

2. According to the scale at the gym, I am 18 lbs heavier than I was this summer at Pennsic. GREAT GOOGLEY MOOGLEY! No wonder I feel like a slob. I need to start drinking WAY MORE WATER and eating WAY LESS comfort food. I made an effort to eat a little better yesterday, and today hasn't started off too bad, but this is ridiculous. We did the grocery shopping yesterday, so now I have SOME things that will be good for me to eat. Can't wait until I know where all my stuff is in the kitchen and can stop with my current awful habit of eating whatever is "convenient." At least the left-overs in the fridge this morning were moderately healthy. (Whole wheat pasta with home-made meat sauce.)

3. My ENTIRE BODY is CHAPPED. (I keep thinking that even my BUTT is chapped, but I think that's just the remainer of the bed-sores from spending 10 straight hours in the vinyl truck seat on Sunday... I'm only partly joking.) Wisconsin is considerably more dry than Pittsburgh. Zig started me with a little boxing yesterday, so now even my dang knuckles are chapped. Also, this constant kissing is not helping me keep the chapstick on my lips. (YAY KISSING!)

4. The parts of my body that aren't CHAPPED, are BREAKING OUT. I have 4 zits on my FACE, just in time for Boar's Head. GREAT. I don't normally have ANY. I don't care so much that they LOOK LIKE ASS, but they HURT LIKE A MOTHER. I can't WAIT until my body finishes adjusting to the new climate. This transitional stuff BLOWS.

5. Again with the dry climate... My hair has the most AMAZING STATIC EVER. I will need to talk to Lisette about what Wisconsin girls do to avoid generating enough charge with their hair to power an entire city block every time they take off a sweater. Good lord.

6. My crap is in boxes all over the living room. There isn't currently any place to put it, and I don't have time to deal with it because I'm so incredibly inefficient right now... because I can't FIND ANYTHING. It's a vicious cycle. I think poor Zig stayed up all night last night cleaning out the basement to make space for some of the things that we need to move around to make room for my stuff, but this whole thing with my stuff not having "any place to live" is driving me bananas. It will get better, I know, but between the lack of computer organization and the lack of personal organization, I'm about to lose my mind.

7. I really just want to curl up and spend an evening reading a book or knitting a thing. I miss reading. I miss "leisure time." There is no place to curl up other than bed because of #6. My crap is all over the couch. Also there is no place for my knitting to live and I don't know which box my unread books are in. DAMN YOU #6!

Things that are good:

1. Zig took me to the gym last night and we had a good workout. I don't feel quite as flabby as I did yesterday, but there is still a long way to go.

2. We went shopping last night for good stuff to eat. Tonight I will make a roast with vegetables in the crock pot. There will be no added fat or preservatives. There may even be some fiber and vitamins. I will not feel obligated to gorge myself to justify the $10 meal. I can just put the leftovers in the fridge and have a snack later.

3. This pack-and-a-half-a-day smoker is no longer smoking in the house. I am therefore down to one pack every 3 days. Smoking now makes me HIGH. Eventually I will become too lazy to put on my shoes and coat every time I want a cigarette and I will be down to a pack a week. And then I will quit. And that will be good for me.

4. Eggnog.

5. Falling asleep next to Zig every night is teh awesome.

6. Waking up next to him in the morning is even more awesome.

7. Hearing that he loves me about 600 times a day is the most awesome thing EVER. Who'da thunk? If you'd have told me two years ago that we'd end up together, I'd have simultaneously laughed in your face and held my breath hoping. Here's to not holding my breath anymore.

Needed items for surviving Wisconsin Winters:
- Ultra Moisturizing Body Wash
- Ultra Moisturizing Lotion to lotion head to toe right after you're dry from the shower
- Small pocket size version of ultra moisturizing lotion for your hands throughout the day
- Moisturizing lip balm of some sort.. if you're lips are getting *really* sore (cough cough ;) ).. Blistex makes this great Medicated Lip Ointment that works wonders while making your lips feel tingly :)
- Static Guard is your new best friend. Use it on everything. It smells a bit funny, but perfect when the hair is beyond control.
- Be sure to use fabric softener sheets in your dryer.. If your sweaters/clothes are still static-ky when you go to put them on, just grab a sheet and rub around your clothes.. this also works for hair if you like the smell of dryer sheets ;)
- Get a humidifier. Use it. Be prepared to decalcifiy it if you use tap water.
For the Hair:
- Moisturizing Conditioner everyday for at least 5 minutes from the nape of the neck down
- Twice a week I use this minty tingly St. Ives Hair Repair Intensive Conditioner
- Leave in Conditioner.. I like the one by Pantene because I can spray it on wet or dry hair.. so if static has me going nuts, just a few spritz on top and it's controlled.
- I use just a tiny tiny bit of hair serum, rub it b/w my hands and lightly pat/rub over the top layer of hair while wet or dry.. it tends to keep it less frizzy when I do that. Some versions can be pretty expensive, but I found this one works just fine without making my hair feel greasy or weighed down. (as long as I don't use too much of course)
- Air dry your hair if you can.. Blow drying will be tough on it.

hmm.. that's all I can think of at the moment.. but I'll let ya know if I remember any other stuff I do.. Oh, and if you like soaps/bath stuff... The Soap Opera down on State St has an excellent selection from all natural stuff, to regular things, and they have all these scented oils and such as well if you want to make up your own.

I dunno if it's just the BRAND of dryer sheet that Zig got or if they're BROKEN, but I've been using those suckers RELIGIOUSLY with every load of wash, and I'm STILL being smitten by static left and right. I pull sweaters out of the dryer to the thunderous crackle of electricity.

I've been using Garnier Fruictice leave in conditioner, AND I ALWAYS air dry my hair... (I don't actually OWN a hair dryer...) And still the static plagues me.

Also, I think that part of the problem with my poor chapped digits is the fact that I *may* be slightly allergic to Zig's dish detergent. I have been using the Dawn that was left over from the gigantic bottle we get every Pennsic for YEARS. For some reason, they never put that in storage, and I end up with it... and then they buy another bottle the next year at Sam's Club. Who buys a GALLON of dish detergent for 2 weeks? Anyway, Zig has "Joy" here, and I think perhaps my fingers dislike it. I will switch when this bottle is gone. Fortunately, it was only the wee baby-bottle. I will keep using lotion and persevere.

hehehe.. broken dryer sheets ;) Try putting two in? For the sweaters get the Static Guard.. it will help a lot. Also the humidifier(s) will help too.

As for the rest, during the summer, I don't have to do nearly as much conditioning/product as in the winter.. Only through the combination of all that I listed, do I manage to somewhat keep from getting the Hair from Outerspace ;) Unless of course I have to wear a hat... like for ice skating.. in which the only solution is braids.. 2 french braids may look kinda girly and silly, but it's better than a big ol' flying hair-do ;)

oh, and I remember for a quick hair fix, just rubbing some lotion on your hands until it's partly absorbed and then running it over the lower half of your hair helps too...

As for the dish soap.. yeah definitely try something different.. some are harsher then others.. and I thought there was one out there that advertised it was not so drying.. an Ivory dishsoap I think?? I personally am a Dawn fan as well. If your hands are still getting bad, there are some great mineral oil products that work really well and don't make your hands greasy, that I sometimes use. Here at work I have to wash my a lot, so my finger tips are all icky and cracked by the end of the day, and that seems to help.

In troubleshooting the dryer sheets earlier, I noticed that they seem to be going right into the lint trap of the dryer straight away. Thus we have static free lint, and electrified clothing... Now I'm trying to figure out how to prevent this from happening while still ensuring that the lint gets... trapped.
