Someday, I want to try making soap from scratch - buying 0 ingredients at the store and gathering what I need from "daily medieval staples."

In order to accomplish this, I will need to start saving ash from camp fires (Dang... All that lovely ash from Pennsic gone to waste! If only I'd spawned this plan before hand!) and reduce it to potash. AND cooking grease. I've been meaning to stash my cooking grease ever since I moved here, but I just haven't seemed to acquire jars of the right sizes... Maybe it's time to acquire some ball jars from Walmart.

... I will probably have to draw the line at acquiring my own salt from scratch, as I don't live by the sea or have a handy salt mine, but if I have the chance, I suppose I could evaporate a couple gallons of sea water to get what I need for soap...

Here are directions for the geekiest soap making EVAR, courtesy of some deep-cover missionaries who got tired of living amongst the "filthy savages" and decided they all needed to learn to make soap.

Saw Hellboy last night... It was a beautiful movie, even if the romantic sub-plot was clunkity.

STILL haven't unpacked the trailer. I may attempt to get it into the driveway while Zig is at work tonight, if I can manage to stay awake past midnight...
