Well, for the first time since I moved in, I'm alone in the house. It's remarkable that in two weeks I haven't NOTICED that I haven't had any alone time. Now that I do, it's kinda nice, because I can putter and talk to myself and not worry about whether or not I look like an idiot walking up and down the stairs 76 times because I keep forgetting why I went up or down in the first place. On the other hand, I do miss the Friediness.

10 years ago, when I moved to Ocean City, I ended up hating it for the following reasons:

1. I didn't know anyone there. (This was corrected the second year when we took Steve and Will with us.)

2. Ocean City, MD hasn't a lick of culture. (There's no helping that. It's a tourist town. Any culture that may have arrived temporarily is leaving at the end of the week.)

3. The ONLY oriental (and by "oriental" I mean, Japanese, Chinese, Thai, Indian, Korean, or any culture that involves slanty eyes and rice as a staple food...) food in the ENTIRE city was the Board Wok, and whether or not that food is "oriental" is an arguable point. There were chinese people working there, but that may have been the only point of authenticity.

4. I didn't know where anything was, and I was afraid to go out, lest I get lost and never get back. Plus, I had the only car, so if I DID get lost and not come back, other people would be screwed and end up being late to somethingorother.

5. There was nothing to DO there (see: no culture) aside from go to the beach and the pool... and then the beach again. If you WORK on the beach, going there loses it's allure rather rapidly. And if you're used to the lonely dunes of Padre Island, then the jam-packed boardwalk of and their mere 30 feet of sand are seriously disappointing and only TECHNICALLY qualify as a beach.

Every time I was worried that moving to Madison might be a bad thing, I enumerated those reasons to myself and asked if I had anything else to fear.

1. I actually have more friends in Madison than I do in Pittsburgh.
2. I've already seen a bunch of stuff downtown that I'd like to look at...
3. I've already been to a very nice Thai restaurant and there's a chinese place literally 75 feet from the house. There are TONS of oriental restaurants in this town. Heck, there are just tons of restaurants in this town. Too bad I can't afford to eat at any of them for a while...
4. I have GPS. I have a ton of friends who have lived here forever and can give directions. With the combination of a friend who knows that a thing exists and a tool that can find anything with an address, I am confident that I will be able to go anywhere I want.
5. There is so much to do here that for Christmas, I have asked Zig for 4 more hours in every day so that I can attempt to do some of them... (Well that, and I feel that asking for something reasonable would not be upholding the womanly ideal of being impossible to buy for...)

I think I'm gonna be OK...Hell, I think it's gonna be GREAT! I thought about going out once I finished with my work-work today, but I have so many things I need to get done around the house, I think all the "outside" stuff can wait. I need to finish getting my life out of boxes.
