I have confirmed that my zd7000 laptop is one of the machines included in this lawsuit. I can't find the power cord for it, but it definitely died due to mother board damage due to overheating. Unfortunately, by that point, the warantee had been up for over a year, so I just got a new laptop.
Having read all the paperwork associated with this lawsuit, I suppose I will (if the settlement is agreed upon) send my laptop in for the promised repairs, find a new power cord on ebay, and then, perhaps go that extra step toward excess and make the 17" laptop the "media station" for the living room, or perhaps just donate it to a worthy charity. (I've given quite a few children laptops over the years. It's kinda fun teaching them how to use/care for the technology that they need to become accustomed to now, in order to be successful in the future.)
None of this will need to be decided until February, and even then, the judge may decide that HP doesn't need to do anything at all. But I guess it's a good thing that I held on to the old laptop for "parts." (Even though none of the parts from it fit anything else I've got right now...) I'll hold onto it for a little while longer, and we'll see what happens.
On that note, if any of you knows a school-age child in Jara that does NOT have access to a home computer due to the family's financial situation (Being grounded from the intarwebs does NOT count.) please contact me offline and let me know. I'm not making any promises yet, but I *do* work with computers for a living, you know... In my experience, mine is not the *only* laptop that may be resurected unexpectedly...
