So Saturday was a good day. Sunday was a good day too, but so uneventful that I'm not even going to bother telling y'all about it. Mostly we ate a lot and worked out the best way to fit 2 adult humans and 2 adult dobermans on a full sized futon-couch-thing. It wasn't easy, but we managed somehow.

But back to Saturday, which actually had some cool stuff to talk about. Like making cookies at the Household Holiday Party. Abbey and Elizabeth both made sugar cookie dough from scratch. I was gonna, but then realized on the way to the store, that I no longer have the sugar cookie recipe memorized, nor can I find about 50% of my cooking utencils... Thus I cheated and bought 2 tubes of Pillsbury sugar cookie dough. We all brough cookie decorating things and Sarah and Eden used their 287928393 cookie cutters to make us about a bizillion sugar cookies to decorate. We got flour all over EVERYTHING while rolling out the dough and were delighted to find that there was an AXE shaped cookie cutter. I was extremely pleased to find that my lovely assistants (Sarah and Eden) were both inventive and bloodthirsty in their use of cookie cutters. The favorite cookie shape of the day was the gingerbread man shape with the scalloped circle cookie shape cut out of his middle. (Thus leaving a man shape that looked like he'd been bitten in half.)

Abbey and Gunther were fabulous hosts and had fancy hats for everyone. I will refrain from gushing about how adorable Zig looks in a Santa hat.... Oh, screw it. The man looks ridiculously cute and festive in a Santa hat. I got some reindeer antlers on a hair band that I will eventually put on the dogs while they are sleeping... There will be blackmail photos of dogs! Yay! Maybe there will even be pictures good enough to use on Christmas cards for next year. Who knows?

Anyway, once the cookies were done, we made the 2 knights of the house make icing... A manly task to be sure...(OK, well at least it involved power tools, if an electric mixer counts.) I helped with the colors for the icing, and that is why our Christmas cookies were green, purple, blue, and orange. We made the best necrotic zombie gingerbread men cookies EVER. Seriously... I've never seen such disgusting cookies in my life! It was delightful.

Of COURSE the cookies didn't last very long once we got home. Because yours truly is DUMBEST EVER and keeps forgetting that the doggies here will help themselves to anything foodlike that is left on the counter. And they can even reach stuff that is left near the back of the counter. So Jasmine and Maggie licked all the icing off our necrotic zombie gingerbread men cookies. Damn them. Zig rescued a couple, which I ate despite the potential dog drool content, but I was disappointed by the shortlivedness of the cookies nonetheless. I will have to make more later. I will have to get Abbey's recipe. Her cookies tasted way better than mine, despite the fact that my store bought dough was probably easier to work with and came out fluffier in the end. I think the baking powder in the cookies made them taste funny - and sugar cookies don't need to be fluffy anyway.

We really need to get the Christmas tree soon, but we keep slacking off about that. You know what I REALLY need for Christmas? About 4 more hours added onto every day...
