I really will be happy to sit you down and give you a knitting pattern tutorial, whenever you like...but yes, knowing that most people don't knit both ways is helpful to understanding what they mean by the word "row", I imagine!
I knit socks mostly, so I knit in the round, and when you knit in the round, no purling (or knitting backwards)! Yay.
